Soul on Fire #22
New Mural

Greetings
Welcome this issue of Soul on Fire
Above: The new mural I painted for Phantom Billstickers
I enjoyed painting in a more traditional style rather than my own style. Most of the elements in this piece are directly inspired by artist Madam Li Yuen Sheng of the Gongbi School who illustrated Light of the Bhagavat. Obviously I have remixed some things like adding Love Hear Man and adding many ears to the monk who holds a sanyassi rod of the gaudiya line. I also added bees and a wooden T.V showing the Aum symbol which Heart Man is happily tuned into. Since painting this piece I have personally been inspired to listen more as opposed to talking. It seems painting murals is a good way for me to work on my own spiritual practice as it sets an intention and reminds me to take certain actions.
I chose the theme 'Listen' because lately I have been reflecting on my tendency to talk, and my indifference and seeming deafness to the words spoken by others. I'm even deaf to my own self. The volume of my minds constant rambling thoughts of insecurity, judgments of others and general chatter has drowned out all other sounds such as the beneficial speech of my friends, the calls for help from people who look up to me, the sweet sounds of nature and the even sweeter sound of my mantra. Even my own intelligence is hard to hear over my minds un-shut-up-able gossip and talk of plans for getting neuro chemical hits.

Throw Back

This piece was painted in a residential alley in Fitzroy, Melbourne in about 2013. First I painted the word 'Freedom" Then I came back some time later and decided to add to it. Freedom for me is not just an ability to do what I want but freedom from the daydream of my so called identity. In other words freedom from false ego is complete freedom. As long as we think we are these material bodies we will suffer the tyranny of material existence.
