Hare Krishna dear friends.
Today I finished my mantra meditation and read from Saranagati - a song book by Bhaktivinoda Thakur.
I happened to be on a zoom call with a friend named Raja Vidya as I host a mantra meditation session on zoom every morning and the page I opened to had the words jada vidya.
So I'm hanging out with Raja Vidya about to read about vada vidya.
Vidya means knowledge. Raja vidya means the king of knowledge and jada vidya means mundane knowledge.
As Krsna says in Bhagavad-Gita
This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed.Â
So what knowledge is Krishna saying is the king of knowledge?
The whole 9th chapter of Bhagavad Gita deals with this so I recommend reading it fully but here's a verse I just pulled out of a hat (actually I asked my wife to pick a number between 1 and 30)
O Arjuna, I control heat, the rain and the drought. I am immortality, and I am also death personified. Both being and nonbeing are in Me.
So why is this called the king of knowledge? Because with this knowledge we can actually make spiritual progress and be happy.
As Krishna says a little bit later in His conversation with Arjuna:
The thoughts of My pure devotees dwell in Me, their lives are surrendered to Me, and they derive great satisfaction and bliss enlightening one another and conversing about Me.Â
So vidya means knowledge and real knowledge is the knowledge Krishna gives Arjuna in Bhagavad-Gita.
If you'd like a copy of Bhagavad Gita please wrote to us and we will happily send you one.
Hare Krishna.
