The highwaymen of lust and his bandits have bound me tightly. Around my neck are the coarse, choking ropes of karma—my own many wicked deeds. And I’ve been pretending I’m fine, or strong enough, or detached enough. But the truth is, I’m not.
There’s only one thing to do: Scream!
Not into the void. Not at the world. Not even to Krishna directly. But to His devotees.
“O mind, please scream out to the devotees of Krishna, the killer of Baka, ‘I am being killed!’ Then He will save me.”
This powerful line from Raghunnatha Gosvami pierces through spiritual pride and fake self-sufficiency. It reminds us: we don’t get saved by our strength, but by our sincerity—especially when that sincerity is expressed as helpless crying to those who love Krishna.
Why the devotees?
Because Krishna hears them. Because they are soft-hearted. Because they carry His mercy like rivers carry rainwater—bringing it into our dry, lifeless deserts.
Even Krishna waits for His devotees to say the word.
Just look at the story of Narakasura.
This demon had kidnapped 16,100 princesses, holding them captive, stealing their dignity and future. Symbolically, this is what lust does—it imprisons the finer sentiments of the soul. But when these women cried out to Krishna, and His dear wife Satyabhama got involved, then Krishna mounted His Garuda and came at once.
It wasn’t the strength of the victims.
It wasn’t even Krishna acting on His own.
It was the devotee’s involvement that moved Him to rescue.
The Lila of Krishna killing Bakasura - the demonic bird keeps coming up for me lately.
Maybe because I’m tired of trying to “manage” my anarthas. Maybe because I’m finally seeing that my real strength is in crying honestly to the Vaishnavas.
When I’m around sincere devotees, it’s like my soul gets its oxygen back. And when I try to go it alone, the ropes tighten.
So this is my reminder—maybe yours too:
Don’t wait until you’re perfect to reach out. Confide in devotees when you’re desperate. That’s when Krishna comes.
But He comes through His devotees.
So scream if you have to. Maybe not literally if thats not your style (lol) but sincerely inquiring from devotees about the problems of your life is important. Krishnas first instruction in the Bhagavad Gita is to approach guru.
So the idea that men should be independent and cry privately if at all is bogus. No one has it all handled. We are interdependent on eachother and especially on God. Call out when you need Him. Or try to do it all yourself and suffer. Up to you.
I love this!
